johansmithMemberHey Brawlhalla community,
With the recent discussions around new features, Guilds, and the competitive scene, I’ve been thinking a lot about the foundations of a healthy online gaming environment . One of the biggest challenges we face is maintaining fair play and ensuring account security, especially as the game and its community continue to grow.
In the broader tech world, identity verification systems are becoming crucial for tackling issues like fraud, botting, and even underage access . I’ve been researching how these principles might apply to gaming communities, looking at systems used internationally to see what could be learned.
For instance, there’s a system in Chile called a RUT Lookup System, which is a public registry used for verifying a person’s legal identity . While it’s not designed for gaming, seeing how it works got me thinking:
Could a similar, privacy-first verification system (anonymized like PlaySafe ID ) help online games like Brawlhalla?
Cheating & Smurfing: Could verifying a unique identity help curb cheating and smurfing, making bans more effective and competitive ladders more accurate?
Account Security: Could it add an extra layer of security to protect valuable accounts from being taken over?
Creating a Safer Community: Could it be a tool to help platforms comply with new regulations aimed at protecting younger players and building more inclusive communities?
I’m not suggesting this would be a perfect or simple solution—privacy and ease of use are major concerns—but it’s an interesting thought experiment for how we can tackle some of the persistent problems in online gaming. A more secure and fair environment benefits everyone, from casual players to the World Championship competitors .
What do you all think? Is a form of identity verification an inevitable part of the future of competitive online games, or would it introduce more problems than it solves?
